Porcelain veneers in Fresh Meadows

Veneers are thin restorations attached to the front surfaces of teeth. They may change the appearance of tooth shape, color or spacing. A useful consultation considers both your cosmetic goals and the health of the teeth that would support them.

Consider changes to the front surfaces of teeth with a careful cosmetic assessment.

Deciding whether veneers fit your goals

Veneers cover the front of a tooth; they do not provide the same coverage as a crown. Healthy teeth and gums are part of the assessment. Clenching, grinding or the way the teeth meet can affect whether veneers are an appropriate choice.

Tooth preparation may involve removing enamel, so treatment should not be approached as a temporary change. Ask what preparation would be needed in your case and discuss alternatives such as whitening, bonding or orthodontic treatment where relevant.

Plan the appearance together

Bring specific questions about what you want to change. You might discuss the edges of the teeth, their proportions, how much tooth shows when you smile, or how the result would relate to neighboring teeth.

Ask how the proposed shade and shape would be agreed before final placement. Photographs can help explain your preferences, but another person’s smile is not a promise of what your own treatment can achieve.

Understand the commitment

Discuss the expected maintenance, possible need for future repair or replacement, and what is included in the estimate. Veneers need ongoing dental care. A decision should account for the long-term condition of your teeth, as well as the immediate visual change.

Your questions, answered.

Will veneers straighten the underlying teeth?

Veneers change the appearance of the tooth surface. They do not move teeth through the jaw in the way orthodontic treatment does.

Are veneers reversible?

Where enamel is removed, that preparation is irreversible. Ask the dentist exactly what changes would be made to your teeth.

Can I whiten veneers later?

Whitening products do not change the color of veneers in the same way as natural teeth. Discuss shade choices and any whitening plans before treatment.
